Musafir Khana: A Symbol of Hospitality in Islamic Culture
In Islamic tradition, Musafir Khana represents a proud legacy of hospitality and human values. During his caliphate, Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) established special lodgings for travelers called “Dar ad-Daqiq”, where food and accommodation were provided free of charge. He also set up Musafir Khanas along the route between Makkah and Madinah. This tradition still survives in some parts of the Indian subcontinent, where travelers can find free shelter for up to three days.
