Alhamdulillah, peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, companions, and all who follow him. The first revelation to the Prophet ﷺ in the Cave of Hira began with the command to read in the name of the Creator (Surah Al-Alaq 1–5).
Just as worldly education is needed to manage life, Islamic education is essential to preserve the Deen and conduct every part of life in a way that pleases Allah. IOM opens diverse opportunities for learning through its Alim programme and many focused short courses.
History of IOM
The journey began in 2018. Mufti Jubayer Ahmad—an Islamic scholar, researcher in comparative religion and da'i—and Engineer Khandaker Marsus—an IT engineer and business-management professional—shared a goal: to make authentic Islamic learning accessible to the Ummah.
Their combined initiative established Islamic Online Madrasah (IOM), an online education and Dawah platform open to learners of every age, profession, madhhab and manhaj. IOM respects the recognized schools of Islamic thought and does not exist to promote a partisan group.
IOM was formally inaugurated at Al-Masjid an-Nabawi on 1 Muharram 1440 (11 September 2018); the website had first been established on 17 October 2017. The first batch began with 132 students, including doctors, engineers and learners from several countries.
Questions and answers
Is IOM affiliated with a political party or group?
No. IOM is a completely non-political institution and does not belong to a particular party or group. Teachers may come from different recognized scholarly backgrounds, while lessons follow the Quran and Hadith, in sha Allah.
Can I sit for the Dawrah Hadith examination after studying at IOM?
IOM’s three-year Alim preparatory programme is designed for learners from a general-education background. After completing it, a student may enter the Quduri level at a Qawmi madrasah and continue through Hidayah, Mishkat and Dawrah. IOM can provide guidance and an admission letter for approved institutions.
Do women need niqab in class, and are classes mixed?
Students’ video is not shown to teachers or other students, so niqab is not required for the online class. Female learners receive separate recitation-practice groups led by female instructors. Students join using their roll or student ID rather than displaying personal names.
